No bug ochOpenGraph stopped working with Facebook

Hi, there.

ochOpenGraph suddenly stopped working with Facebook. I checked with various articles, but it always falls back to the original image, and never to the article full image. I can give you the site URL if needed.


I haven't done any updates yesterday or recently. I use ochOpenGraph 1.8.9, and Joomla 4.3

Twitter works fine.

Please let me know, for I use this daily.

thanks for the report. I will investigate what can be causing this.
Can you provide me with a link to the page you are having these issues with? (The image you provided is to small so I cannot read it)
You can add the link in your reply in the private tab (new kunena feature), or with the confidentiality button in the editor.
Or if you do not have an issue of the URL being open to every body you can also just add it to your respons.

Hi,
so when I look at the page source for one of the news items I see that the image set in og:image is a webp image.
but when I open that url in facebook sharing debugger and click 'See exactly what our scraper sees for your URL', the the page source shows the same image but with extension .jpg

Do you have any plugin or setting somewhere in your template that replaes the jpg image with a webp version? What image are you using in the article itself: jpg or webp?

Hi, yes.

Yes, there is a setting that replaces the jpg image with the webp image. My admin set this some months ago, I can ask what that exactly is.

I use .jpg for the article. This .jpg to .webp conversion was there all along, but it had never created an issue before.

An update. It seems there's a wider issue with this on Facebook today. I checked on the Facebook Developers community forum, and multiple people have reported this (sudden stop of previewing links)

But obviously no answer from Facebook yet. If you have anything to suggest, like upgrading to a newer version of ochOpenGraph, let me know.

ochOpenGraph only adds a mettag to the page containing a location for the image to use. It doesn't do anything else: so it doesn't have any interaction with facebook.
facebook just visits your page just like any visitor would do: for ochOpenGraph there is no difference.
So this cannot be 'fixed' within ochOpenGraph as there is no 'error' here: the image provide in the metatag is okay (other then that your site overwrites the image for a regular visitor but not for facebook: so the other extension is making changes that could (I say could, not do) have an impact.

Hi, yes this was fixed by Facebook eventually. It was a major glitch in a number of websites (no link preview). It took them around 16h to do this, but now back to normal.
