GB pays VAT/tax was created by Sakis Terz
Hi Ruud
Today I saw that a B2B customer from UK/GB paid VAT tax, while he should not.
I also checked that in the checkout and it seems to happen indeed.

Also, Northern Ireland is missing from the countries list.
Regards,
Sakis

Hi Sakis,
thanks for reporting: I see that the source I get the VAT rates from started including UK again... that is not correct: I removed it.
to fix on your site: wait till next cron runs (that will update VAT rates) or in back-end > countries > dropdown 'Actions' > Update EU VAT rates.
when you then in Countries filter on 'VAT Required', UK should be gone.
As for Northern Ireland, I will check that separately (to be continued).

So checked this in the banking world:
www.iban.com/country-codes
Northern Ireland is considered GB / GBR
What you could do is in the country view edit country 'United Kingdom' and rename that to 'United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland'.
But what we have now, 'United Kingdom' is correct as that stands for Great Britain (= England + Scotland + Wales) + Northern Ireland

No, it has the state of an EU country, regarding commerce and transactions.

"Northern Ireland is subject to a dual VAT system. The EU VAT legislation for the supply of goods between Northern Ireland and the EU, on the one hand, and the UK VAT rules for services on the other."
so VAT for physical goods, No VAT for services / digital goods.

Thanks again!
Didn't know about that distinction.
You can close it.

Me neither
learned something new, and good to have it here as reference for future inquiries.
